HR Officer based in Coventry

About the company:

A leading high street retailer are actively recruiting an experienced retail HR Officer

Main purpose of job: To support the Head of HR in all aspects of the HR function, to ensure the effective delivery of the overall HR strategy

Type of contract: 12-month fixed term position, 37.5 hours per week, typically 8:45am-4:45pm Monday to Friday

Main Duties:

  • The creation and implementation of policies and strategies across all areas of HR
  • Support the HR Administrators with regular coaching and one to one meetings
  • Assisting with the Society recruitment strategy, including advertising, shortlisting, interviewing, training Hiring Managers and revising the PSL
  • Assist Marketing in the social media strategy
  • Review current practices within the division and suggest areas of improvement for more efficient ways of working
  • First line support for general HR queries across our Head Office and our Food and Funeral divisions
  • Assisting in the absence strategy, following up on long term absence
  • Assisting in grievance hearings and disciplinary meetings
  • The launch of the HR and TNA systems
  • Supporting T&D with the colleague development journey, focussing on retention
  • Updating the careers page and Society intranet
  • Helping the Training & Development and Payroll Teams
  • Assisting with admin work when required, such as contracts, new starter paperwork and contract changes


  • Project management
  • General HR experience
  • Experience in employee relation matters
  • Experience of presenting to various levels of seniority
  • Advanced Excel and Power Point skills

Desired Skills:

  • CIPD Level 5 or above
  • Educated to degree level
